What To Do Nectar Flow

- obsenve bees on the blossoms; the longerthey stay on a flower, the better it is

yielding nectar and pollen

- check how long the flowering period willlast by checking the number of openedflowers and the number of unopenedflowers

- check literature to see how long the flowerspecies you observe is likely to flower

- observe the activity of the bees at the hiveentrance. Active flight, with many worker bees landing short of the hive entrance(three to six cm) is an indication theworkers are retuming to the colony withtheir honey sacs full of nectar

- if there is a nectar flow, remove surplusripe honey and add an extra box.

- examine blossoms to see if bees havepollen on their legs

- observe the bees at the hive entrance ansee how many are carryine powen ontrieislegs.The volume of pollen colectea vaduring the day

- observe the number of colours of pollenbeing collected; the more the betterbecause it means that the bees are working several species of plants to collectthe pollen

- open the hive and check the amount ofstored pollen around the brood combs.

- check if the brood nest is expanding.
