Manipulate Honey Bee Brood
Prepare to manipulate brood combs by
- selecting suitable PPE and checking it prior to use
- selecting tools and equipment required to manipulate brood and checking them prior to use
- identifying wHS hazards associated with manipulating brood and taking actions to minimiserisk to self and others
- observing any site quarantine in effect and any otherbiosecurity protocols
- identifying risks to the colony,including brood andqueen bee,and taking actions to minimise thelikelihood and consequences of risks.
Manipulate the brood by
- opening the hive according to enterprise proceduresand safe work practices
- removing combs in a planned sequence and placingthem in a suitable position
- replacing frames in the same or a new sequence orposition, or removing them to another hive accordingto the purposes for which the brood is being
manipulated
- undertaking work in a safe and environmentallyappropriate manner according to enterprise
guidelines
- observing enterprise policies and procedures in relation to workplace practices and site quarantinefor the handling and disposal of waste materials
- clarifying the reason for manipulating the brood andplanning the appropriate sequence of actions
- monitoring the hive and colony after the manipulation process and taking appropriate actionif needed.
