What happens after the swarm loses its queen bee?
What happens after the swarm loses its queen bee?
There are tens of thousands of worker bees in a bee colony. How do they know the existence and non-existence of the queen bee in the dark hive? It turns out that the queen bee will continuously secrete pheromone (commonly known as the queen bee substance).
Through the worker bees licking and continuously transmitting this queen bee substance, all the worker bees will learn about the queen bee's alive information. Once the colony loses its king, the delivery of the queen bee material will be interrupted. The worker bees learn about the kingless message and will feel uneasy within tens of minutes. The worker bees will look for the queen bee everywhere inside and outside the hive, and the normal working order in the hive will soon be beaten.
After about 12 hours, there will be an emergency king-making platform in the nest. If there are no larvae in the nest, the colony will be kingless for a long time (usually a few days to more than 20 days). It will develop and lay unfertilized eggs. These eggs are all drones. At this time, if remedial measures are not taken, this group of bees will not be able to maintain and eventually perish.
