How to manage bees in autumn and winter

How to manage bees in autumn and winter

1. Eliminate the old and inferior queen bees

It is found that there is a pharaoh who lays drone eggs and a queen who lays less eggs should be replaced in time. Chinese bees have the habit of mother and daughter in the same nest and spleen. Double queens can be used for reproduction, and the pharaoh will automatically disappear after a period of time.

2. Adjust the strength of the bee colony

Carefully check the strength of the bee colony and the number of comb spleens in each group. If you find that individual bee colonies are weak, you can adjust the sub-spleens of the strong group to the weaker group, so that all bee colonies in the farm have the same potential and the number of comb spleens , To ensure a safe winter.

3. Prevent the bee from fleeing

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the collecting bees cannot get out of the nest due to heavy continuous rain. When the honeycomb is short of honey, the bees will be hungry and flee. Check frequently at this time, especially the weak group, if you find that there is a lack of honey, feed sugar in time (the ratio of sugar to water is 2:1).

4. Prevent disease enemies

If you find that there are sporadic sac-like larvae from the nest door of the beehive, don't panic and use medication in time. If it is found that the condition is serious and the flower spleen appears, immediately isolate the affected group and move it to a ditch 5km away from the bee farm to let it fend for itself. Autumn is also a period when predators are rampant. To prevent frogs and toads at night, beehives should be raised. During the day, there are wasps and ground nest bees hovering around the hive and should be beaten in time. Spiders in the fall are also very harmful to bees and cannot be ignored. The air around the hives, branches and walls are covered with many spider webs for catching bees, which should be cleaned up in time.

5. Anti-theft bee

Before and after the frost, September chrysanthemum is a blooming period every year. When the blooming period occurs prematurely and there is neither nectar nor powder source, the door of the beehive nest should be closed to a minimum to reduce the number of openings. When opening the box, try to open and check as soon as possible to prevent theft. If there is a stolen bee, the light one can wipe some kerosene at the door of the stolen beehive to drive away the stolen bee. If the stolen bees are serious, kerosene on the door of the nest will not help, immediately move the stolen bee colony to 5km away, and empty the hives here to eliminate the stolen bees.

6. Feeding winter sugar

Before the beginning of winter, egg laying stops and all the honey spleens are in the beehive. Check whether the honey spleens in the beehive are sufficient. The author's many years of experience shows that the death of wintering bees is not frozen to death but most of them starve to death, so they are willing to feed sugar.

7. "Wear cotton"

The bees spend the winter in the north to "wear cotton" on the hives. If the cotton-padded clothes cannot be worn too early, the temperature in the beehive will be too high, and a large number of bees will fly out of activities, which consumes sugar and bees. A few days before the winter solstice, it is most suitable to "padded the beehives". There are many methods, which should be determined according to the material, such as wheat straw, straw, leaves, cotton wool, etc., to cover the beehive to keep warm and ensure a safe winter.
