Consolidation Of Bee Colonies
For some reasons, the bee colony is too weak or loses the king, etc. It is necessary to merge two or more colonies of bees to form a large colony. Strong clusters are the basis for high yield. Before the honey-picking season, a combination of methods is also adopted to organize strong clusters to gather honey.
1 Principles of merging bee colonies
The king-free group is merged into the king group, and the small group is merged into the large group. If the two groups have kings, the poor quality queen bee is captured the day before and then merged. Generally, it is safer to merge in the evening.
2. Method of merging bee colonies
A. Direct merger: Mainly in the period of high honey flow, the strong honey taste is the same in all bee colonies, and they are all busy with work. The bees relax their vigilance and are easy to merge successfully. The swarms that have just moved out of the wintering room in early spring are also easy to merge.
Adjust the comb spleen with the king group to one side of the box, and place the combined bee spleen on the other side, leaving a frame distance between the two parts of the bee spleen or insert a separating board in the middle. Spray some smoke or honey when merging. The two parts of the bee spleen can be brought together the next day.
B. Indirect merging: spread a piece of newspaper with many small holes on the nest box with the king group, add an empty relay box, put the merged bee spleen into the box, cover with cloth, auxiliary cover, and box cover. After the two groups of bees bite through the newspaper and communicate with each other, the spleen of the bees can be adjusted. Pay attention to ventilation after the box in hot summer.
