Beekeeping Tools

Beekeeping Tools

1. Separate King Board

The king board is a special tool used to limit the laying of eggs by the queen bee. Taking advantage of the difference in breast thickness between the queen bee and the worker bee, the width of the grille is designed to be between the queen bee and the worker bee, so that the worker bees can pass freely, while the queen bee's activities are restricted. The queen bee is restricted to lay eggs in a certain area of the hive with the king board, and the hive is divided into an egg-laying area and a honey-storing area. There are two types of partitions, one is a flat partition, which is used for the barrier between the nest box and the relay box, and the other is a frame-type partition, which has the same dimensions as the gate, and is generally used In the nest box.

2. Partition and gate

The partitions and gates are thin wood boards shaped like a nest frame, with a thickness of 10 mm. The outer dimensions of the clapboard are the same as the nest box, and the outer dimensions of the gate are the same as the inner circumference and height of the nest box. The baffle is placed next to the outermost comb spleen and does not affect the bee path. It is used to adjust the size of the honeycomb, which is beneficial to heat preservation and avoids the spleen being made by the worker bees. The gate is placed in the nest box to cut off the bee path and divide the beehive into independent spaces, so that a beehive can raise two or more independent bee colonies at the same time, and the bees do not communicate with each other.

2. Feeder

A feeder is a container that can hold liquid feed or water for feeding bees. There are many types of feeding, but the common requirements are convenient feeding, easy sucking of bees, less exposed feed, suitable capacity, etc.

3. Queen bee attractor

The queen bee attractor is a special tool for beekeeping that enables the queen bee to be safely accepted by the worker bees when the queen bee is indirectly attracted or temporarily stored. There are many types of queen bee attractors. Commonly used are wooden sleeve attractors, whole spleen attractors, and spleen buckle attractors. When in use, the queen bee is put into the trap, and several worker bees are put in at the same time, and then they are buckled on the comb spleen and put into the bee colony together with the comb spleen.

4. Basic tools for nesting

The nest foundation is inlaid into the nest frame and the bee colony is used for the bees to secrete wax to build the spleen. Common tools for nest foundation include nest foundation pads, wax melting pots and thread embedders. The nest foundation backing board is a smooth and flat wooden board, the length and width are slightly smaller than the inner circumference of the nest frame. When in use, the nest foundation pad is soaked with water, and the nest foundation is lifted from below when the nest foundation is buried. The wax melting pot is used to melt a small amount of beeswax and fix the nest foundation in the groove of the upper beam of the nest frame. It is a kettle-like object made of tinplate. When in use, the beeswax is burned to melt and then cooled, and then the wax liquid is poured into the groove of the frame beam. After the nest frame is threaded, the threaded iron wire is buried in the nest foundation with a thread burying device to increase the support strength of the nest foundation. The embedding device is a kind of copper block with a square pyramid and a wooden handle. The tip of the cone is filed into a small groove, so that it can just jam the iron wire. When using, heat the copper block first, and slide the groove along the iron wire when embedding the wire. This operation should pay attention to the appropriate force to prevent the iron wire from breaking the nest foundation or failing to bury the iron wire in the nest foundation.

The above is the introduction of bee breeding tools. With the continuous advancement of bee industry technology, people continue to eliminate primitive and crude tools, develop and apply new equipment and equipment to meet the needs of production development. Improve the efficiency of beekeeping, reduce labor intensity, increase and improve the yield and quality of bee products.
